Hydrometeorological Research and Forecasting, no. 4 (390)
"Proceedings of the Hydrometcenter of Russia"

Edited by D.Ya. Pressman, PhD of Physical and Mathematical Sciences

The present issue contains papers that deal with studying a wide range of practical issues of hydrometeorological forecasting. The mechanism for the generation of mountain waves over European Russia is investigated, their forecasting capability is assessed using the COSMO-Ru6.6 model. Based on the ERA5 reanalysis data, the characteristics of thunderstorm activity over the Asian part of the Russian Arctic are studied. The experience of producing storm warnings about convective weather hazards using experimental methods of the Hydrometcentre of Russia is analyzed. Estimates are given for selecting an optimum set of parameterizations for forecasting over the Caspian Sea among those provided by the WRF model. The experience of using neural networks for numerical prediction of ground-level ozone is summarized. The section of marine forecasts contains the paper analyzing ice conditions on the Caspian Sea shipping routes. The agrometeorological section presents regression models for estimating and forecasting the yield of grain and leguminous crops based on the analysis of agrometeorological conditions and satellite information. Two papers contain a description of the regional features of climate change. The issue is interesting for specialists, postgraduates, and students studying hydrometeorology.
