Summaries - (PDF)
The present issue of the journal contains papers related to various areas of hydrometeorological science. Three articles cover the studies of formation conditions and forecasting of active convection with squalls and thunderstorms. Application of radar information for verification of the high-resolution numerical weather prediction is considered. The uncertainties in the prediction of severe weather events and possible ways to reduce them are discussed. Aviation forecasts are presented in the paper dealing with the icing of aircraft engines in ice crystals. Another paper deals with the climate research and provides the analysis of long-term (100 years) variability of surface air temperature in the area of the Dvina Bay (the White Sea). Hydrology is represented by the paper dealing with the snow cover monitoring based on satellite and model data for different catchment areas in the European part of Russia. In the section of agrometeorological forecasts, the estimation of vegetation conditions and the forecast of maize yield using satellite and terrestrial information for the subjects of the Russian Federation as well as the features and impact of drought in the Urals and Siberia in 2012 on the spring grain crops yield are considered. The method for interpolation of piecewise linear data on vehicle emissions on a regular model grid is considered for Moscow.
